What Does Board Certification Mean

WHAT DOES TRIPLE BOARD CERTIFICATION MEAN?

The American Board of Podiatric Surgery certification indicates that Dr. Barry has completed a credentialing process including required postdoctoral education, at least four years of postdoctoral clinical experience, approval of documentation of surgeries on all areas of the foot and successful completion of written and oral examinations.

Dr. Barry has been certified and has earned the title of Diplomate by The American Board of Podiatric Surgery in Foot Surgery, by The American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine in Podiatric Orthopedics, and by the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Orthopedic Medicine in Primary Podiatric Medicine.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS OF EACH OF THE THREE SPECIALTY AREAS?

PODIATRIC SURGERY
Certification in Foot Surgery indicates that Dr. Barry has demonstrated a cognitive knowledge of Podiatric surgery, including the diagnosis of general medical problems and surgical management of foot diseases, deformities, and/or trauma, and those structures that affect the foot.

PODIATRIC ORTHOPEDICS
Certification in Podiatric Orthopedics indicates that Dr. Barry has completed a CPME approved postgraduate training program, provide documentation of three years of experience and/or education after completion of the post graduate year, and pass the oral and practical examination.

PRIMARY PODIATRIC MEDICINE
Certification in Primary Podiatric Medicine requires completion of a CPME approved one year postgraduate training program, provide documentation of three years of experience and/or education after completion of the first post graduate year, submit 36 case reports following the procedures outlined by the board, and pass both the written and oral examinations.
